Abstract

The numerical mesh influence on the efficiency of the numerical model and quality of obtained results is analyzed in a mathematical model of shallow water flow in the 2D case and a Navier-Stokes fluid flow model in the 3D case. Both cases implement an implicit numerical scheme that produces a linear system solution in every time step. In the 2D case, the use of a cell-centered finite volume mesh is suggested because it gives a suitable linear system matrix and in the 3D case, a polyhedral mesh type is preferred.
